MORATTI: "DE CANIO'S COMMENTS? I HAVE TOO MUCH RESPECT FOR HIM TO BELIEVE CERTAIN RUMOURS."

MILAN - Inter president Massimo Moratti spoke to sports journalists late this morning. Here's the text of the interview (1).

President Moratti, we can say this Inter side has taken flight. Perhaps it's a little early, but we're seeing a team that's showing to be increasingly sure of itself match after match...
In this year's championship it's like this - as soon as one side shows a sign of weakness the others know how to take advantage. So you need to be careful all the time. In Perugia it was like this for Milan, but also for us and Juve. In yesterday's match we had the advantage of playing against a Reggina side that had come to Milan to do harm, in the sense that they were looking for a win in a very aggressive way. Fortunately, we were in form, just as I hope we will be until the end of the championship.

The team showed great calm throughout yesterday's match. Which aspect did you like most?
I like this side's personality very much. They feel strong and they are sure of having resources of a certain type, and the fans also realise this.

De Canio's post-match declarations were, quite frankly, embarrassing. The theory has been put forward that his comments were prompted by Gea, the Reggina coach's agent, in order to increase the pressure on Inter...
Anything can happen in football. But I have too much respect for De Canio to believe certain rumours. Perhaps he just got carried away by the situation. And Inter are certainly not one of the traditionally more favoured sides.
