APPIANO GENTILE - Stefano Pioli was joined by Cristian Ansaldi, as the pair looked ahead to Thursday's final Europa League group match at home to Sparta Prague.
Pioli revealed he intends to use the match to assess all his players: "This match is a chance for the guys who haven't played as much football. It's also an opportunity for us to return to winning ways and honour a continental competition in the shape of the Europa League. We are disappointed to have missed out on qualification because it's a prestigious trophy and the team put a lot of effort in last season to achieve European football."
All is not lost, however, a point the coach was keen to stress: "Either way, we're only halfway through the campaign and there are still plenty of points to play for in the league. I believe in the team and we have the potential to be successful. We have to work hard and give 100% until the last. Then there's the Coppa Italia too."
A lot has been written about Diego Simeone in the last few days but Pioli reminded the media that he has a job to do: "I'm the coach of Inter and I'm focused on my work here. I'm determined and keen to be successful, along with my team. We are aware that our approach was wrong against Napoli and that's something that must not happen again."
Three points would be just what the doctor ordered on Thursday: "We have to get straight back to winning ways. A lot of the players here have the right character to help the team out when the going gets tough. Yet we all need to do that bit more as a unit to be more consistent over 90 minutes and become a competitive side. Everything is in place here to do a good job, from the facilities to the club's support."
