INTER AND SERIE A: RANIERI'S TITLE CHASE

The Nerazzurri would be second if the league had started with Ranieri's opening game, in Bologna

MILAN - (Stats courtesy of Football Data) Thirty-one points from 15 games: an average of 2.06 points a game. That's Claudio Ranieri's Inter and how they have been performing in the league. With 8 wins out of their last 9 matches, Inter have scored in their last 15 successive away games (22 goals in all) and haven't conceded a goal away from home for 427 minutes. They hadn't won 6 matches on the trot in Serie A since November-December 2008 and hadn't won four consecutive away matches since January-February 2009.

Ranieri, who inherited an Inter team which was struggling near the bottom of the table, has taken them to fifth place, but they would have been second – on the same number of points as Juventus – if the championship had begun in Week 5, which was Ranieri's first at the club, when they won 3-1 in Bologna.

This is the Serie A league table based on the 15 weeks since Ranieri assumed command:

AC Milan 35
Inter 31
Juventus 31
Lazio 29
Udinese 28
Roma 25
Napoli 21
Atalanta 19
ChievoVerona 19
Parma 19
Catania 18
Bologna 17
Genoa 17
Cagliari 16
Siena 16
Cesena 15
Fiorentina 15
Palermo 15
Lecce 9
Novara 8

N.B.: Bologna, Catania, Napoli and Roma have a game in hand
