First match-up between Gasperini and Luis Enrique

This is the first time Gian Piero Gasperini and Luis Enrique have faced each other as coaches.

Gasperini v Roma: no draws and always conceding

This is the eighth time Gasperini has taken on Roma as a coach, so far managing 2 wins and 5 defeats against the Giallorossi. In those 7 games, Gasperini's teams have always conceded - 11 goals in total.

Luis Enrique's first time as coach against the Nerazzurri

Luis Enrique has never coached a team against Inter in a competitive match before. As a player, Luis Enrique featured in Barcelona 3-0 Inter on 18 February 2003, in the second group phase of the 2002/03 Champions League. Luis Enrique played the last 9 minutes, replacing Saviola in the 81st minute.

One defeat for Inter in 60 home games in Serie A; 13 wins on the trot

Inter have lost just one of their last 60 Serie A matches played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza: the game against AC Milan on 14 November 2010 (0-1). The Nerazzurri's record in the other 59 games in that period is 46 wins (including all 13 of the last 13) and 13 draws.

No clean sheets in 10 for the Nerazzurri

The Nerazzurri have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 10 competitive fixtures, between the end of last season and now: 14 in all. The last time Inter kept a clean sheet was on 19 April 2011, when they beat Roma 0-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia.

De Rossi has the Nerazzurri in his sights

Daniele De Rossi has scored more goals in competitive fixtures against Inter than against any other team since he began his professional career: 6 of his 44 total goals. Julio Cesar is the goalkeeper that De Rossi has put the most past (4).

Roma's record 14-match scoring run at the San Siro

Roma have hit the net at least once in each of their last 14 competitive fixtures played against Inter at the Meazza - 25 goals in total. The last time the Giallorossi failed to score against the Nerazzurri on this pitch was on 15 June 2005: Inter 1-0 Roma (Coppa Italia). It is the longest scoring streak Roma have ever had at Inter's home ground.

MILAN - This evening's 2011/12 Week 3 match between Inter and Roma was an evenly balanced affair with both teams creating chances and yet it ended goalless. The two goalkeepers Julio Cesar and Lobont (who replaced Stekelenburg midway through the first half) came out on top in the first 45 minutes, each making some crucial saves. There were chances in the second half too, with Sneijder and substitute Zarate the main threats. The Nerazzurri were in the ascendancy in the final minutes but were unable to make the decisive breakthrough.

FIRST HALF – Gian Piero Gasperini reverted to a three-man defence for the Roma clash, with Lucio, Samuel and Ranocchia  in front of Julio Cesar. There were two up front, in the shape of Forlan and Milito, and five across the midfield: Nagatomo, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Sneijder and Obi. Luis Enrique opted for Borini and Osvaldo in support of Totti.

It was a special occasion for Javier Zanetti as he made his 756th appearance in a Nerarazzurri shirt and equalled Giuseppe Bergomi's record. Zanetti celebrated the occasion with a specially designed captain's armband ("Zanetti & Bergomi 756 volte nerazzurri") which will be auctioned on e-bay with the proceeds going to the PUPI Foundation. Javier and Giuseppe played on the same team 134 times and won the 1998 UEFA Cup together.

Roma began pressing right from the start and the first goal opportunity fell to them: Borini sent Osvaldo through and he unleashed a left-foot shot which Julio Cesar parried. In the 19th minute Roma were dangerous again as Borini went past Ranocchia and tried to find Totti with a cross, but Lucio was there to clear for a corner. Inter made their presence felt on 20 minutes when Forlan tried to find the goal with a right-footed shot, but Lobont, who had come on to substitute Stekelenburg after he was stretchered off following a clash with Lucio, managed to save at the second attempt. Two minutes later Milito succeeded in finding some space for a shot in the area but Lobont blocked his attempt with his legs. In the 36th minute Inter broke through with a move involving Milito, Forlan and Sneijder which Nagatomo finished from 15 metres out, as he fired powerfully just over the bar. In the 45th minute, following a corner, Totti tried to find De Rossi at the far post but Lucio did well to head the ball clear. After three minutes of added time the first half of Inter v Roma finished 0-0.

SECOND HALF - No changes were made by either manager during the interval. Roma bared their teeth right from the start as Osvaldo brought out a great save from Julio Cesar as he had to come out to block his shot with his body. Then a few seconds later it was Taddei who sent the ball high over the bar. In the 50th minute Inter wasted an opportunity as Milito got on the end of Sneijder's inch-perfect cross from a free-kick but sent the ball narrowly wide. In the 64th minute Zarate, who had come on for Milito, took the ball past Totti and shot left-footed to see the ball shave the upright. On 67 minutes Lobont did well to save Sneijder's blast after receiving from Forlan. Then, after 72 minutes, Julio Cesar saved well from a Totti free-kick. Forlan was unlucky to see his curling shot miss the goal 3 minutes later. In the 86th minute Inter's best chance of the match fell to Sneijder: Zarate pulled the ball back across from the dead-ball line on the right, Kjaer managed to clear but only as far as Sneijder who shot from 10 yards out to be foiled once again by Kjaer who was almost on the goal line. A real shame. Three minutes into added time Inter had another chance: Nagatomo crossed from the right and found Jonathan, but Burdisso was on hand to save. A minute later Sneijder tried again. He managed to get away from his man on the right and shot right-footed from 14 metres out. Lobont parried and Burdisso moved to cover as the Dutchman claimed for a foul. After four minutes of added time, Inter v Roma finished 0-0.
