CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OPPONENTS - BARÇA HUMILIATED AT HOME TO VALENCIA

BARCELONA - Champions League Group A opponents Barcelona were defeated 4-2 at home to Valencia on Saturday evening. The Catalans now trail La Liga leaders Real Sociedad by seventeen points.

Pablo Cesar Aimar put Valencia into the lead after 13 minutes, then John Carew redoubled for the visitors 7 minutes later. Gerardo pulled a goal back for Barceona 6 minutes before the break.

Despite playing the whole of the second half with ten men after the sending off of goalkeeper Canizares just before half time, Hector Cuper's former side took a 3-1 lead through Aurelia in the 83rd minute. A dramatic finale saw Valencia go further ahead through Francisco Rufete 2 minutes from time before Patrick Kluivert's 89th minute face-saving effort.
