EINDHOVEN SILENCED AS PSV VS. INTER FINISHES 1-2!

Great display from the Nerazzurri at the Philips Stadion after Nainggolan and Icardi goals overturned the result following Rosario's opener

EINDHOVEN - Mission accomplished. Inter are coming back from Eindhoven with the three points. The Nerazzurri put in a great display at the home of PSV, coming back to win 1-2 thanks to goals from Nainggolan and Icardi to remain on full points in Group B of the Champions League. That means the Nerazzurri are level with Barcelona on six points while the Dutch side and Tottenham Hotspur are on no points. It was the fifth straight win (three in Serie A, two in Europe) for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The start was lively to say the least. In the first 60 seconds, Nainggolan twice attempted to get a shot away, first being blocked before Zoet saved down low. PSV didn’t take long to respond. In the third minute, Asamoah was hasty in attempting to stop a counterattack and Bregwijn was then unable to make the most of De Jong’s knockdown inside the box, firing over from close range. In the 21st minute, Rosario hit it from range and Handanovic did well to scramble to make the save following a deflection before De Vrij cleared the danger. Inter were on the attack again in the 26th minute, Icardi brought the ball down perfectly for the oncoming Vecino who blasted over. From the next piece of play, PSV took the lead. Rosario received the ball from Lozano at the edge of the area before picking out the top corner. The Nerazzurri weren’t intimidated by a noisy Philips Stadion and went straight in search of the equaliser. Icardi had two headed efforts. He headed the first one just wide in the 34th minute from a D’Ambrosio cross before Zoet saved his second on the line in the 37th minute from a Brozovic corner. In the 40th minute, it was Nainggolan who went just the wrong side of the post with a right-foot effort from the edge of the area from a Politano ball. There was a scare in the 41st minute. Handanovic came out of his area to close down Lozano and the ball hit his arm and he was shown a yellow card. A minute before the break, Inter found a well-deserved equaliser. A powerful shot by Asamoah was saved by Zoet with some difficulty, Icardi looked to turn home the rebound but was stopped by Schwaab and eventually it was Nainggolan who applied the finish with an unstoppable right-foot strike. That made it 1-1 just before the sides headed to the changing rooms.

The second half began as the first half had ended, with Inter looking threatening. The Nerazzurri had the first chance of the second half as Icardi got on the end of Politano’s cross after 48 minutes, but his header was too close to PSV’s goalkeeper. The hosts then went close to retaking the lead through Pereiro. His effort, however, struck the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick. After coming away unscathed, Inter went on to take the lead in the 60th minute: Vecino’s long ball over the top found Icardi, who knocked it past the goalkeeper with his head and then calmly slotted home with his right foot. Vecino and Icardi once again combined ten minutes later, but the captain’s header from the Uruguayan’s cross was saved by Zoet. PSV started to threaten again and almost equalised after 79 minutes, but Handanovic produced a flying save to keep out Malen's bicycle kick. The match then remained evenly balanced in the final few minutes, during which Spalletti brought on Borja Valero and Candreva for Nainggolan and Politano respectively to try and freshen things up. The Nerazzurri managed the match superbly in added time to close out the match and come away with a 2-1 away win.
