MILAN - Gary Medel expressed his joy on several fronts after making his return to the starting line-up against Bologna in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
The Chilean had spent the last two months on the sidelines with a knee injury but went the full course as the Nerazzurri triumphed 3-2 after extra time.
Speaking to Inter Channel after the game, he said: "I'm delighted with the win today and it was great to get back out there, even though it was a tough 120 minutes."
The 29-year-old has most often played in midfield for Inter but instead partnered Jeison Murillo at the heart of defence on Tuesday.
"I've often played centre-back for Chile. The idea was to push the team up and look for the centre forward or the wide players."
Medel also revealed how pleased he was for Murillo after the Colombian scored a truly astonishing overhead kick to hand Inter the lead.
"I'm so happy for Murillo - that has to be goal of the year!"
