MILAN – Roberto Mancini has reiterated his praise of Inter’s impressive performance in the win over Napoli at San Siro on Saturday night.
"I don’t know if it was the best Inter performance of the season," declared Mancini, who was appearing on Rai’s La Domenica Sportiva programme. "But it was definitely a great showing against a team having a fantastic season. It was really important to win with a top performance, giving very little away to Napoli."
The three points secured against the Partenopei means that with five matches remaining, the Nerazzurri can still snatch third place: "Beating Napoli obviously gives us a massive boost and on Wednesday we’ll see if we’re able to build on the good work we did on Saturday as we visit a tough ground at Genoa.
"We lost lots of points in January and February – some needlessly, some undeservedly. But I have no regrets. We need to wait until the end of the season to see where we finish. We hope to get third place but even if we don’t, I think it will have been a positive season because we’re improving and we’ve identified some key players."
Mancini was also asked about the summer transfer market: "I get asked these questions every week. The situation is quite clear – we need to act carefully and look for players that fit the project. Then we’ll see if the situation changes."
Lastly, the Nerazzurri boss was asked what the differences are between Massimo Moratti and Erick Thohir: "They’re different people of different ages. The hope is that Thohir’s Inter is successful, as Moratti’s was. But it takes a bit of time and we need to be patient – it’s going to take longer than a couple of years."
