MILAN – After settling the Milan Derby with a wonder strike last night, Fredy Guarin hopes it will be "Inter's year" but insists they must keep their feet firmly on the ground if they are to achieve their objectives.
"Our derby win gives us strength and calm and is obviously good for our league position. The club have built a competitive side and now it's up to us,” the midfielder said on Italia 1 programme Tiki Taka this evening.
Asked if Inter can aim for the Scudetto, he continued: "We need to stay calm and focused on our targets. It's natural that enthusiasm should be high now but we need to keep control of our emotions. We're only at the start of the season and we're haven't found our rhythm yet. I think we can do even better because we have lots of new players."
"Mancini's faith in me? I never had any doubt. For me it's important to respond on the pitch. With the coach and the club the idea all along was for me to stay here."
The 29-year-old explained then concluded: "I hope this will be Inter's year. Getting into the Champions League is our first target, then we'll see what happens one game at a time."
