Holes in Cagliari goal

Inter's cup semi-final opponents have let in at least one goal in each of their last 15 (Serie A & Coppa Italia) away matches (total 33 goals conceded). The last time the Sardinians kept a clean sheet on the road was on 10 November 2004 when they held Sampdoria 0-0 at the Marassi.

No Rossoblu away win since November

Cagliari at home and Cagliari away in 2004/05 are two different sides in terms of results. On the road, Arrigoni's men haven't won in their last 14 matches, with 3 draws (2-2 at Siena, 3-3 at Livorno, and 1-1 at Verona in the Serie A) and 11 defeats. Their last away victory was the 3-2 win against Lazio in Rome last 28 November.

Mancini & the Coppa Italia

No player has played more Coppa Italia finals than Roberto Mancini (15 appearances from AC Milan 0-1 Sampdoria on 30 May 1985 to Inter 0-0 Lazio on 18 May 2000). Mancini has also lifted more Italian Cups than any other player, (four times with Sampdoria in 1984/85, 1987/88, 1988/89 and 1993/94, and twice with Lazio in 1997/98 and 1999/00). And since he has become a coach, Mancini has added two more domestic cups, one with Fiorentina in 2001 (Parma 0-1 Fiorentina, Fiorentina 1-1 Parma) and the other with Lazio last season (Lazio 2-0 Juventus, Juventus 2-2 Lazio).

Inter and 1-1 draws from cup first legs

Inter go into an Italian Cup second leg after a 1-1 draw from the first leg for the fourth time in their history, and have progressed in the competition on two of the previous three occasions: 1-0 at home to Napoli, round of 32 in 1938/39 and 1-0 at home to Pisa, quarter-finals in 1967/68. Instead, the Nerazzurri were knocked out in 1986/87 when Cremonese won the quarter-final clash on penalties after the return leg in Milan also finished 1-1.

Inter unbeaten in 11 cup games

The Nerazzurri's last Coppa Italia defeat was the 2-1 loss at home to Bari on 19 December 2002. Inter have since registered 6 victories and 5 draws. Inter's longest unbeaten cup run is 20 matches between May 1986 and April 1988.

MILAN - A brace from Christian Vieri and an injury-time goal from Obafemi Martins gave Inter a 3-1 victory over Cagliari at the Meazza on Wednesday and see the Nerazzurri through to the Coppa Italia final with an aggregate 4-2 win.

Inter made their intentions clear from the opening minute when Veron tested Iezzo with a fierce long-range effort which the Cagliari keeper couldn't hold on to, forcing Lopez to smash clear. Vieri went even closer with a stinger from 20 yards that Iezzo managed to tip over, then Inter's perseverance paid off on 26 minutes. Karagounis picked out Martins with a long-range pass to the far post, then the Nigerian played into the middle for Vieri to slot into the roof of the net.

Cagliari's only meaningful chance of the opening period fell to Zola, whose close-range effort was well-saved by Carini. But the Nerazzurri proceeded to dominate, forcing Iezzo into more saves from Veron, Vieri and Karagounis before the break.

The Greek midfielder had two long-range efforts parried by the Cagliari custodian early in the second half before Vieri doubled on 58 minutes with Inter's 100th goal in all competitions this season. After receiving from Cambiasso, the Italian striker took the ball past Iezzo and found the net with a shot from a tight angle. The Rossoblu reduced the deficit six minutes later through Lopez, who stole in at the near post to nod home a Zola inswinger.

Vieri thought he'd completed his hat-trick with a looping header over Iezzo on 72 minutes but the flag was raised for offside. Cagliari substitute Albino had a couple of chances from the distance before Obafemi Martins made the result safe in time added on with a low shot under Iezzo from a Vieri assist.

In June's final Inter face the winner of tomorrow's second leg at the Stadio Friuli between Roma and Udinese (first leg 1-1).
