CUPER: "THE DERBY MEANS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE."

APPIANO GENTILE - Hector Cuper press conference (1).

Ancelotti said it's fundamental for AC Milan to stop Vieri...
I don't think Inter are just Vieri, even though Vieri is very important for us because he's one of the best strikers in the world. I'm not sure whether stopping him can give AC Milan the certainty of winning the match.

Crespo has shown he's still not back to his best. Who is in better condition, him or Recoba?
The difference between the two at the moment is that Recoba is playing, while Crespo hasn't played ninety minutes for three months. I'm not going to make comparisons. I chose to field Crespo against Valencia because I wanted to rest Vieri and Recoba a bit. But then the match went as it did and I couldn't make certain substitutions. However, Recoba is fine. He had a small problem yesterday, but... From a tactical point of view, Crespo did excellent things, but he's still lacking a bit in terms of working with the ball.

Does Hector Cuper understand the psychology of derbies?
I know what a derby is. A derby is almost the same all over the world - in Spain, Argentina, Italy... It's a match that means so much to the fans, the presidents, and also the coaches, the players and all the clubs. When there's a derby, being first or tenth in the table counts for nothing.

You didn't risk playing [Javier] Zanetti or Crespo in the match against AC Milan earlier in the season...
I take risks if I feel I have to. If a player is only sixty percent I don't field him, whether it's a derby or not. You have to manage the team in a certain way and every player must feel important.
