MILAN - Newcastle and Leeds have agreed a fee for the transfer of 23-year-old England international defender Jonathan Woodgate. The transfer is expected to be completed before tomorrow's deadline.
Inter's Champions League Group A opponents issued a brief statement regarding the transfer: "Newcastle United confirm that they have agreed a fee with Leeds United for the transfer of Jonathan Woodgate. The completion of the transfer is subject to the player agreeing personal terms with Newcastle United."
Magpies boss Bobby Robson remarked: "I want Woodgate to strengthen our defence. We hope to be back in Europe next season and we need people of quality who can come in and keep the results going."
Inter entertain the Tyneside Bianconeri in Champions League Matchday 11 on 11 March.
