MORATTI: "BATISTUTA WAS A COMMON-SENSICAL CHOICE. HE'S OUR SAFETY NET."

APPIANO GENTILE - At the end of Hector Cuper's press conference, Inter president Massimo Moratti answered questions from the journalists present at Pinetina.

Was Batistuta the first choice?
Besides the other players we could have looked at, Batistuta was a common-sensical choice.

But when Crespo recovers, how will he coexist with Batistuta at Inter?
There aren't any problems. We know who Crespo is, we know his value. He helped us get through the round in the Champions League. We're waiting for him. But it was important to create a safety net, for the quality and quantity of players. And Batistuta is this net.

When was the last time you heard from Batistuta? Yesterday?
We didn't hear from one another yesterday, but we spoke on Thursday and also this morning. He was charged up and very keen to come to Inter. At the moment we have Vieri, Recoba and Kallon. If Batistuta also breaks through, then that's even better.

But was Batistuta the first name on the list?
After a day during which we were worried for Crespo, and we were right to be, it was a professional obligation to understand how the situation might evolve. Batistuta seemed to us to be a common-sensical possibility.

What do you expect from Batistuta's arrival?
I'm expecting him to bring his experience, his will, his character. He's not one who plays in order to finish in third place, he's the type who plays to win.
