SEDRIANO – Inter Women’s first official match ended in a great victory for De La Fuente’s team. On matchday three in Serie B, a goal by Costi and an own goal by Casarotta secured the team’s third consecutive win, meaning the Nerazzurre are top of the league.

In the early stages, the match was predominantly played in the middle of the park. Inter were on top in terms of ball possession but were finding it difficult to find spaces in between Cittadella’s well-organised defence. Nevertheless, the away side’s goalkeeper Toniolo had to be on hand to keep out Regazzoli’s effort, before De La Fuente’s team came inches away from taking the lead when Casarotto almost directed the ball into her own net. In the 32nd minute, the Nerazzurre couldn’t take full advantage of an indirect free kick inside the box as Cittadella’s defence managed to get the ball away. However, Inter did take the lead eight minutes later as Costi controlled the ball well and fired home. The first half finished with the Nerazzurre 1-0 ahead.

After the break, Inter were immediately in the ascendency, with Pandini just firing wide after 48 minutes after good play by Baresi. Just two minutes later, Merlo managed to beat three opposition players, but her final effort after entering the penalty area was too close to Toniolo. Inter had another chance almost immediately, but Brustia couldn’t quite convert a cross from the left. After 57 minutes, the Nerazzurre deservedly doubled their lead as Casarotto beat her own goalkeeper following Brustia’s right-wing cross. It was a really good performance from Inter in the second half, and the team could have added to their lead 20 minutes from time as both Pandini and Rognoni went close. The Nerazzurre then controlled the final stages to seal a 2-0 win – Inter Women’s first official victory.
