ICARDI: "A SPECTACULAR EVENING"

A debut goal for Mauro Icardi in the Champions League: "The important thing is that Inter keep winning"

MILAN - As is tradition, Mauro Icardi scored a debut goal in the Champions League on Tuesday: “I came into that position and the ball was then played to Asamoah. I noticed that all of their players had dropped into the area so I remained outside. He then did well to spot me and play in a fantastic ball before I then couldn’t not shoot and it went well.

“It was a spectacular evening and it was what we had to do. We know that we have a strong squad, one that can play against anyone. Looking beyond our start to the season, we know our qualities and it this was exactly what we needed. After waiting for three months, we came into this match and achieved our goal. Obviously, it gives us a lot of strength and it will give us something more to now do well in the league.

“This win is key because it gives us confidence. As I said before, we know our qualities in a match like this. Also, in the Champions League, the right atmosphere gives you the will to keep working. You can’t let a win go, the group is long and you can’t progress without winning. I think that we should remain calm and happy because no one imagined a game like this. We should take the positives from this performance. I don’t know if it’s a turning point as the Coach said, however, obviously we go into Saturday with a different mentality. A win like this gives you a lot of confidence to keep going.

“Vecino has done that twice now and it's brought us two wins. However, the important thing is Inter winning, beyond me, Vecino or anyone else scoring. The important thing is that Inter keep winning.”
