MILAN – It’s Throwback Thursday time again! This week we’ve got two wonderful memories to look back on: our eighth Scudetto triumph on 28 April 1963 and the simply magical semi-final win over Barcelona in the Champions League on 28 April 2010.
Let’s kick things off with a trip back to the 1960s. 28 April 1963 was the date as Helenio Herrera’s Inter side beat Juventus 1-0 courtesy of a Sandro Mazzola goal to become champions of Italy for the eighth time. It was a first Scudetto win for Herrera as Inter coach and Angelo Moratti as club president. The Nerazzurri were officially presented with the trophy a month later, on 26 May, after their last home match of the season against Torino.
Fast forward 47 years. On 28 April 2010, Jose Mourinho’s Nerazzurri walked out at the Camp Nou to face Barcelona for a place in the Champions League final. The first leg had finished 3-1 to Inter at San Siro and the Nerazzurri finished the job memorably in Catalonia, limiting the Blaugrana to a 1-0 win despite having to play for more than an hour with ten men after Thiago Motta was sent off in the first half. The final whistle sparked memorable on-field celebrations and the rest – as they say – is history.
