MANCINI: "WE LACKED ACCURACY"

With only four shots on target from 24 attempts, Roberto Mancini was clear in where his side needed to improve against Chievo

MILAN – After a disappointing draw that saw Inter stutter once again at the vital moment, coach Roberto Mancini was frank in his assessments of the performance.

"We’re disappointed because we could have gone sixth today and that’s something we wanted to do. However, I have to say that we did everything apart from score. If you don’t find the net, everything else becomes very difficult in a match like this one," he began.

Mancini went on to talk about what else his side could have done today: "We were lacking a bit of intensity. We had 24 shots but only four of those were on target. We lacked accuracy, but in terms of possession it was all us. The only this missing was the goal, but that’s what makes the difference in football.

"In games like these you need your talented players to make the difference. Inter took the game to them and the real disappointment is that we couldn’t score," he explained.

"Icardi was a bit subdued, but at the same time he didn’t have much space. Shaqiri, Lukas and Hernanes should have been better in finding him. I think that the play was slow coming up from the defenders, not from Medel. You need your forwards to make the difference in the final third in a game like that," continued Mancini.

Asked whether European qualification would pose a problem for his squad, Mancini replied: "We have to do as well as we can. Maybe we’ll have one team for Europe and one for the league! That’s what Benitez has done with Napoli this year and I think he’s done it well, even though their league form has suffered a bit."
