ROME - A hard-fought encounter saw the spoils shared as Roma and Inter played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.
The Nerazzurri started brightly and a high tempo was set early on. On the quarter-of-an-hour mark Rolando played a long ball into the box for Icardi, the striker was held back by Benatia but Bergonzi let play continue when it should have been a penalty.
On 32 minutes Destro struck the post and the rebound came off Handanovic and ended up in the back of the net. The linesman's flag was already up, however.
The half-time whistle went with no added time played, just as TV images showed De Rossi throwing a sneaky punch on Icardi from behind: the midfielder will probably be handed a ban but had the referee seen it live it would have been a red card and a penalty.
The second half was again played at pace as Roma sought to come into it more. Handanovic pulled off a miraculous one-handed stop to thwart Pjanic's firmly struck effort in the 75th minute.
Inter began to wane as the game drew to and end as neither side managed to find a winner.
It was a good performance and a good point for Inter, but there will be a hint of regret that they couldn't come away with a bit more.
