MILAN - It's Giuseppe Bergomi's 50th birthday today and on behalf of everyone at Inter we'd like to wish him many happy returns!
Lo Zio (Uncle), as he is affectionately known, was born in Settala (Milan) on 22 December 1963.
Full-back, centre-back, sweeper and Inter captain.
A one-club man, he made his Nerazzurri debut on 30 January 1980 aged just 16 away to Juventus in the Coppa Italia (0-0).
His first league match came the following year in Inter 2-1 Como (22 February 1981) and his last almost two decades later in Inter 3-1 Bologna (23 May 1999).
In between he racked up 758 appearances in competitive fixtures (28 goals): 519 Serie A games (23 goals), 177 appearances in European competition, 122 Coppa Italia matches (5 goals).
His honours list includes a Scudetto (1989), a Coppa Italia (1982), an Italian Super Cup (1989) and three UEFA Cups (1991, 1994, 1998).
He collected 81 Italy caps scoring 6 goals, and took part in four World Cups: world champion in 1982, third in 1990.
Happy birthday Beppe!
