MILAN - Walter Mazzarri spoke to the media following his side's draw with Parma. Here's what he had to say:
"Am
I disappointed by our lack of consistency? I can't fathom why we
started so tense, then we conceded a goal almost immediately and we felt
it. It started as an uphill battle but then we played some nice stuff.
Parma are a lovely team, today they caused us problems, but we needed to
take more care over certain little things. Anything could have happened today, we
could have won, so could they, and in the end it finished in a draw.
We're producing consistent results but there are a number of situations
we need to look at.
"When you've got a team with lots of young
players it's important not to lose. We deserved more in other games. Now
we move forward and we'll think about the next match. At the beginning of the season we needed to leave behind the spectre of the past, we made a wonderful start and that meant that expectations rose. Now we're settling down.
"Maybe we felt the burden of always having to win, especially the young lads. I told the guys in the dressing room to play our own game: we did that at the start of the second half and everyone was more relaxed.
"The challenge on Alvarez? I felt it was a stonewall penalty, I've seen them given for less, but we mustn't cling to one incident. That's the way the game went.
"Palacio made a similar foul on Lucarelli and the referee gave a free-kick? If he gives that, he needs to give us a penalty then. Still no penalties for Inter? Ah yes, but even in the matches we won we had penalties that should have been given. I don't want to cling to that now, but big decisions change games.
"We're making mistakes now by switching off, something we didn't do before. Belfodil? It's hard to figure out what his best position is, I tried him as a second striker and after a while he spread out to look for space on the flanks, like at Torino where he did very well.
"Is this a special week? Every week's the same for me, and I prepare them all in the same way. What sort of reception do I expect from Napoli? I'm not worried about that, I need to think about how to sort out the issues I have with this team.
"The midfield? I had Taider playing there until yesterday because that's something you need to consider if you want to play with three attacking midfielders. These are the tests. I went gung-ho in the last few minutes. Things aren't going well at the moment because had Cambiasso scored there... Today if you noticed Kovacic was in ahead of Taider and we were a bit off-balance from an attacking perspective.
"Why don't I think the team's mature? We haven't completely changed our mind on the squad and we need to understand the reason behind what we're doing. There are good times and bad, even if we are called Inter."
