2012 SPECIAL: NEXTGEN, BIRTH OF MORE THAN A TROPHY

From debut against Tottenham to triumph against Ajax, a winning run and a dream come true

MILAN - It was 25 March when the Nerazzurri’s Primavera team conquered Europe. A long and emotional journey, ending with a victory in the final against Ajax. Inter began in London and finished their group in second place, behind Tottenham, with 11 points. In the quarter-finals they met Sporting Lisbon; a difficult match with over 20,000 spectators in the stands. But as we know, Inter revel in difficult situations. A goal from Mbaye on 55 minutes sent the Nerazzurri to the semi-finals, where they encountered Olympique Marseille. Against the French, Crisetig and Longo (in minutes 3 and 42) opened the door to the final.

The final stage was triumphant, as the team ended up where they had begun: London. Against Ajax, 50 minutes were played with ten men, then penalties. But the dream was not to be denied, as Inter won the NextGen Series and became champions of Europe. On the bench was Andrea Stramaccioni, who before long would be taking the next step, at the helm of the first team.
