MILAN – Last season was a hugely successful one for Inter’s Primavera team. At
Brisbane Road in London, Andrea Stramaccioni’s lads – after a battle that lasted
120 minutes – beat Ajax 6-4 on penalties to reach the summit of Europe by
winning the NextGen Series, the most prestigious U-19 international tournament.
The Nerazzurri went ahead on 45 minutes through Longo, taking advantage of a
beautiful assist from Bessa, but allowed the opponents back in the game on 49
minutes when Denswil’s free kick beat Di Gennaro.
In front of a watching president Massimo Moratti the youngsters, thanks to their great endurance and self-sacrifice, fought for every ball. And despite playing the last 20 minutes of extra time a man down, due to Mbaye’s sending off on 71 minutes, they raised their well deserved trophy to the sky in London.
