MILAN - "Antonio Cassano is truly contributing a lot but I think that this
Inter is the sum of all the players," stated Andrea Stramaccioni after the
game when asked about Inter being dependent upon Cassano.
When further analysing the match, the coach explained that "the most
important aspect is the defensive one, also because we were always dangerous up
front. We’re working hard on this. Today we had a lapse on Almiron in the first
half but that was it. The attacking trident? We wanted to give a sign that
Inter would try to win using front-wheel drive while making the most of the
quality athletic players behind them. The result was positive. Inter created a
lot without giving much away, when considering the attacking players that
Catania can count on. It’s not very smart to examine the table right now. We’re
a team that’s growing. The coach should only try to improve the team match by
match. Today was a step forward with a spectacular second half. Perhaps it was
the first time we were fluid without giving anything away."
Stramaccioni was then shown the replay of the contact between Guarin and Gomez, which led to Catania calling for a penalty: "I got really angry. It was a mistake and we could have paid dearly for it. A serious error on our part."
Then a comment on certain individual players: "Cambiasso was insanely good today, extraordinary. Milito failed to score? By the end of the season he’ll be top-scorer."
During the press conference, when speaking about his choices in formation, Stramaccioni finally got a load off his chest while addressing reporters in the room: "You all see our training sessions, it’s incredible… It’s impossible to surprise anyone with our starting line-up. We are the only European team that trains with open doors, but without opening training to the fans, when in fact they’re the only ones who deserve to see what we’re doing. But you’ll see, I’ll lock you all out…"
