MILAN - This afternoon, with a kick-off at 15:00, Inter and Genoa will
face off for the 52nd time in Milan. The overall record is tilted in favour of
the Nerazzurri, with 38 wins and 9 draws and with 4 wins for Genoa, who have
let in 116 goals while scoring 35. The first time the two teams met in the
league dates back to the 1929/30 season in a 3-3 finish.
For Paolo Valeri, born in 1978 in Rome, it will be his 56th match in the Serie
A, with 21 wins for the home teams, 22 draws, 12 away wins, 23 penalties
awarded (5 this season) and 14 expulsions (2 this season). It will be Valeri's
eighth time officiating a match with Inter (1 win, 4 draws and 2 losses) and
his fifth with Genoa (1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats). So far this season he has
only had one match with the Nerazzurri (Inter 1-1 Atalanta) and one with Genoa
(a 6-1 defeat at Napoli).
For Genoa coach Pasquale Marino it will be the eleventh match against Inter,
against whom he has never won (two draws and eight defeats). When playing away
to the Nerazzurri his teams have always let in at least one goal. The first
time was in the 2006/07 season, with Inter beating Catania 2-1.
Three Nerazzurri players have put the ball past Sebastien Frey multiple times:
Esteban Cambiasso (3), Walter Samuel (2) and Dejan Stankovic (3).
In their last 21 away matches only once have Genoa kept a clean sheet: on 10
December 2011 in Siena (a 2-0 win).
Inter are the team with the least amount of bookings in this 2011/12 Serie A
season: 46.
