GIACINTO IS HERE

Twelve years have gone by since 4 September 2006, but Giacinto is still here with us with all of his morality, fairness and humanity

"That morning, perhaps the most important of my life, I put on my new suit and took the train for Milan. I had to go to via Larga, near the Teatro Lirico to sign the Inter registration card. I was moving like I was sleepwalking. Those minutes on that train never went by. The minutes spent waiting on via Larga were like centuries. Finally, they put a pen in my hands and the card in front of me. I signed: Giacinto Facchetti. Then, I went on my way down the stairs with my heart beating fast. I was an Inter player! I was an Inter player!"

(Se no che gente saremmo, Gianfelice Facchetti, Longanesi 2011)

‘ll Cipe’ never stopped belonging to Inter, not even now twelve years on from that tragic day. A few days later in Florence, Esteban Cambiasso embodied the sentiments of all Inter fans by pointing to the sky after a goal.

Ideally, we still look there every day with heads held high to remember who Giacinto was with his morality, fairness and humanity.

Giacinto è qui. Giacinto is here.
