INTER 1-3 UDINESE: ICARDI'S GOAL WASN'T ENOUGH

The Friuli side won at San Siro on matchday 17 of the Serie A TIM season thanks to Lasagna, De Paul and Barak goals after Icardi had equalised

MILAN – It finished with Udinese winning 3-1 on matchday 17 of Serie A TIM. The Friuli side won at San Siro thanks to Lasagna, De Paul and Barak goals after Icardi had made it 1-1 earlier. Inter’s unbeaten record comes to an end and the points total remains 40.

The Nerazzurri started on the front foot. In the eighth minute, Candreva’s glancing header called Bizzarri into action for the first time. Soon after, Perisic put an Icardi cross just wide with his left foot. In the 15th minute, Udinese took the lead from their first attack. Widmer won a challenge with Santon and played in Lasagna who found the net from close range. Inter reacted strongly and it took just 60 seconds to equalise with Icardi converting from a perfect Candreva cross. The goal to make it 1-1 was Mauro’s 95th for Inter, seeing him become the tenth best scorer in club history. Having gone level, Inter continued to press. In the 19th minute Bizzarri saved a low shot by Santon from distance while a Candreva effort in the 22nd minute just missed the top corner.  Borja Valero beat Fofana in the 33rd minute before firing off a powerful low shot which Bizzarri saved. Brozovic went close with a volley in the 35th minute and in the 40th minute the Udinese goalkeeper saved a goalbound Perisic effort. The Nerazzurri’s number 44 tried again with a powerful right-foot effort but Bizzarri saved again and the teams returned to the changing rooms with the score at 1-1.

Udinese got off to a strong start after the interval, with Lasagna instantly forcing an impressive save from Handanovic after being set up by De Paul. Spalletti opted to bring on Gagliardini for Brozovic in the 54th minute, however Udinese were instantly awarded a penalty with the help of VAR following a handball from Santon. De Paul was the man to subsequently dispatch the spot kick. Fofana then fired over in the 67th minute, although Inter very nearly equalised once again just seconds later. Skriniar leapt high following a cross from Vecino, however his header crashed off the crossbar. Santon made way for Karamoh in the 72nd minute, with Gagliardini soon forcing a save from Bizzarri following a corner from Candreva. Just five minutes later Udinese struck back on the counter-attack, with Barak making it 3-1 following a cross from Jankto. Spalletti made his third and final change in the 78th minute, as he brought on Eder for Vecino. However, as the game entered its latter stages, the Nerazzurri struggled to create any clear-cut chances. Candreva fired in an unmet 87th minute cross, before D’Ambrosio headed over following a delivery from Perisic during the five minutes of added time.
