THROWBACK THURSDAY: INTER’S THIRD SCUDETTO TITLE

On 29 June 1930, exactly 87 years ago today, Inter beat Juventus to become Italian champions for the third time

MILAN – It’s Throwback Thursday time again, and this week we’re looking back to 29 June 1930, when the Nerazzurri won Serie A with a game to spare to secure their third title following their triumphs in 1910 and 1920.

Inter clinched the title thanks to a 2-0 win over Juventus at the Arena Civica in Milan, with Giuseppe Viani (32) and Leopoldo Conti (67) grabbing the goals. The star of that team, however, was undoubtedly was Giuseppe Meazza, the league’s top scorer with 31 goals. In the Nerazzurri dugout was a certain Arpad Weisz, the visionary Hungarian coach who would be killed by the Nazis some years later.

It was a record-breaking season for the Inter, who became the first team to score 85 goals in an 18-team Serie A.
