MILAN – For Throwback Thursday this week, we wind the clocks back to 2007 when current Nerazzurri vice president Javier Zanetti broke Argentina's record for international caps.
On 17 November 2007, Alfio Basile's side came up against Bolivia in a 2010 World Cup qualifier. As usual, Zanetti was picked in his country's starting line-up as La Albiceleste strolled to a 3-0 win. It was his 116th appearance in the national team, which put him one ahead of Roberto Ayala in the all-time rankings.
Zanetti played 29 more times for his country before bowing out on 145, still more than Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi have managed.
This was just one in a long list of achievements in the Inter No.4's illustrious career; he also holds the record for Nerazzurri appearances, donning our famous shirt a staggering 858 times!
