MILAN – Inter coach Frank de Boer believes his side should have beaten Palermo after Inter fought back to secure a 1-1 draw at San Siro on Sunday evening.
"We played much better than in the last match and we’re really very disappointed by the result, after how the game went," said De Boer after the final whistle.
"We could have easily won 4-1 after the way we played in the second half, so I’m really disappointed."
Antonio Candreva’s arrival midway through the second half seemed to change the game for Inter, and De Boer was happy to praise the Italian wideman.
"We have some quality players and we know what Candreva can give us, but on this occasion Eder was in better physical shape than him. Right now my players aren’t at 100% and we did better in the second half because I explained to them what we needed to do to dominate the game," explained De Boer.
Despite the result, the Inter boss declared himself happy with the desire and character shown by his side.
"The lads fought hard and I saw the kind of energy I want to see on the pitch. It’s not a problem if some players didn’t play to their peak, I just want to see them putting their hearts into it.
"I didn’t make the third change because we weren’t creating so much pressure – it was only a matter of time. We didn’t need another sub. I’m confident we’ll get better. The fans were amazing tonight," said De Boer.
Inter now have two weeks before their away game against newly promoted Pescara, and De Boer is planning to work on his side’s fitness levels.
"We need to get better physically – there’s a lot of work to do. We need to focus on lots of things to make sure we’re in the best shape possible after the break," explained the Inter coach.
Last but not least, De Boer had a word for Marcelo Brozovic, an unused sub tonight: "He’s a fantastic player and I think he can do great things. He can still get a lot better and I’m sure he’ll come in useful."
