THOHIR: "A PRIVILEGE TO BE HOSTED AT THE UN"

The Nerazzurri president's speech: "Back in 1908, no one could have envisaged the power of football and how far we've come"

NEW YORK - Erick Thohir addressed the United Nations on Thursday afternoon: "It's an honour for us at Inter to come to the United Nations. I would like to thank you for attending the match and I am very grateful for the invitation.

"Back in 1908, no one could have envisaged the importance football would have and how far we would come. We are 'Brothers of the World', in a more globalised society albeit one facing a challenge. We can send a message out around the world - the president is Indonesian, the new partners are Chinese and the team is made up of different nationalities.

"Ever since 1908, we have brought together differences under one roof. As a team we can send out a strong message. The majority of our players are not Italian. The Inter Campus project gives us an outlet to reaffirm this belief. Inter Campus operates in different countries but there's only one Inter Campus in the Holy Land, where Israeli and Palestinian children play together.

"Football can allow us to open our hearts and become one single person. As individuals we all have to make that change. As president I want to send out a message to the team and management. We must be 'international' in both word and deed."
