VECCHI: "PROUD OF THESE BOYS"

"It's been a superb season, just a shame we can't play the final. Glad to have lifted the Coppa Italia trophy and reached the end of all competitions"

REGGIO EMILIA – Stefano Vecchi praised his team for a successful season after their exit on penalties in the semi-final of the Primavera league.

"Once again today we managed to get back into a game that we nearly lost undeservedly,” the coach told Inter Channel after the game. “We're never beaten. It's just a shame about that loose ball in the box because we ended up paying the price. All the penalties were taken really well.

"It's a shame to see some of the lads with tears in their eyes but they've all had a superb, successful season. The boys improved over the course of the year and made a lot of people sit up and take notice.

“It's a pity about Baldini's penalty. He's one of those who have made the most improvement and I'm sure he's got a bright future ahead in the professional game. He and many others.”

The Nerazzurri boss then spoke to Sportitalia: “We were set up really offensively in extra time yet we still ran very few risks. The goal we conceded was an unfortunate deflection. Sadly we go out on penalties but regardless of our exit we're pride of the progress this team has made.”

Inter Primavera nonetheless end the year with a Coppa Italia trophy together with last-four finishes in the league and at Viareggio. “We're sorry not to make it to the final but we're pleased with our cup success and the fact we reached the end in all the competitions we played in. I can only praise the boys for their achievements. Penalties are a lottery and anything can happen.”

Finally, Vecchi commented on his own future: “I still have a contract with Inter so I think I'll stay here. I haven't spoken to any other clubs; there's no truth what's been written.”
