SASSUOLO V INTER STAT PACK

It's the last game of the season tonight at Mapei Stadium: here are all the statistics you need to know on the contest

MILAN – The curtain comes down on the Nerazzurri's season this evening at 20:45 CEST against Sassuolo at Mapei Stadium.

In collaboration with Opta, we've compiled this list of stats on the game.

HEAD-TO-HEADS

Sassuolo have won their last two matches against Inter in Serie A having lost the previous three.

Inter have scored 16 goals against Sassuolo in total, more than any other team in the top flight. This includes two 7-0 scorelines – at Mapei Stadium in September 2013 and at the Meazza one year later.

These two games are also Sassuolo's worst-ever results in Serie A, aside from on these occasions they have never conceded more than four goals in one game during their time in this division.

FORM GUIDE

Inter and Sassuolo are second and third behind Napoli in terms of improvement on last season's points tally. With one game still to play, the two sides have gained 15 and 12 more points respectively this season.

Eusebio Di Francesco's players come into this game on the back of three consecutive wins, mirroring their form from the end of last season when they won the last four league games.

The Emilian side have conceded just two goals in their last five matches at Mapei Stadium (two wins, two draws and one defeat).

On the other hand, Roberto Mancini's men have switched between home win and away defeat in their last five matches. The Nerazzurri beat Empoli at San Siro last time out.

Inter finished the first half of the season with the best away performance in the league having banked 20 points. They have picked up six points on the road in the second half of the season, which puts them above just Udinese, Atalanta and Empoli.

The Nerazzurri have lost their last two away games, failing to find the net against Genoa and Lazio. Not since February 2014 have Inter lost three away games on the trot, while you have to go back to January 2013 for the last time Inter went three games away from San Siro without scoring.

GENERAL STATISTICS

Inter and Sassuolo have the third- and fourth-best defensive record in Serie A, having conceding 35 and 39 goals respectively. On average, the Nerazzurri concede once every 13 shots from the opposition; the only team more difficult to score against is Juventus (once every 16.6 shots).

Only Carpi (3640) have misplaced more passes than Sassuolo (3622) in Serie A this season.

Sassuolo have picked up 12 points from losing positions in 2015/16, a record they share with Napoli.

Inter have conceded the fewest goals from distance in the Italian top flight – only two. Conversely, only Frosinone on 11 have conceded more goals than the Neroverdi's nine from outside the box, excluding set pieces.

Inter are level with Juventus in terms of the least goals conceded in first halves (just six). Away from San Siro, the Nerazzurri have conceded 70% of goals after half-time – the worst percentage in the league.

Only Juventus (16) have scored more than Sassuolo (12) in the final fifteen minutes of first halves in 2015/16.

Sassuolo's last eight goals in the league have been scored by different players, seven of whom were Italians and six of whom were born after 1991.

Despite Lorenzo Pellegrini and Matteo Politano scoring against Frosinone and Verona, Sassuolo are still the worst club in Serie A in terms of goals from midfield (just seven).

Just three of Inter's 20 goals away from home have been from set pieces and only one was in 2016 (Jeison Murillo against Hellas Verona). The Nerazzurri concede the joint most from corners on the road, level with Sampdoria on five.

SPOTLIGHT ON PLAYERS

Francesco Acerbi is the player who has intercepted the most balls in the current league campaign (133). He has also weighed in with four goals – no Serie A defender has scored more.

Francesco Magnanelli is the outfield player who has misplaced the most passes (408) in Serie A this season but also the player who has won the most balls (320).

Sime Vrsaljko has put in 219 crosses from open play this year, 47 of which have found a team-mate – the highest in Serie A on both accounts.

Nicola Sansone enjoys playing the Milan sides: he has scored four against Inter (his favourite victim in Serie A) and three against AC Milan (his second favourite) in 13 league appearances.

Sansone got on the scoresheet in his last match against Inter at Mapei Stadium, in February 2015, but was also sent off for the first time in his career in the 89th minute.

The suspended Domenico Berardi will end the season on seven goals and six assists. This year he has scored a goal every 311 minutes. Last year it was one every 179 minutes and in his debut season in the top flight one every 136 minutes.

Alfred Duncan came though the Nerazzurri youth ranks and made his Serie A debut with the club in 2012/13, going on to make three top-flight appearances.

Mauro Icardi, who also misses this match, has struck four goals in his last two appearances against Sassuolo, including his only Serie A hat-trick in the 7-0 mauling in September 2014.

Icardi finishes the season with 16 league goals, six less than last term, when he played 300 minutes more. The Argentine has the highest shots-to-goals ratio (31%) among players with at least seven Serie A strikes this season. Last year it was 22%.

Samir Handanovic, another player who sits out through suspension, is the goalkeeper with the most bookings in 2015/16 (five); Juan Pablo Carrizo is expected to start in his place: Inter have never kept a clean sheet in Serie A when he has started.

Eder, who scored his first goal for the Nerazzurri against Udinese, is now one away from hitting the half-century mark. The Brazil-born Italian has faced Sassuolo five times in Serie A – all with Sampdoria – and scored two goals, both at the Stadio Ferraris.

Ivan Perisic has been directly involved, either by scoring or setting up, in seven of Inter's last 15 league goals and Inter's last two away goals (a goal and an assist).

Jonathan Biabiany successfully completes a dribble once ever 21 and a half minutes played, the highest ratio in players with at least 40 successful dribbles this season.

Among players who have committed at least 15 fouls in 2015/16, Gary Medel has collected the most cards, receiving a booking for every 2.2 fouls.

COACHES

Eusebio Di Francesco needs one more point to reach 150 in Serie A.

Since Roberto Mancini returned to the Inter dugout, the Nerazzurri have always lost to Di Francesco's Sassuolo.

Before then, Di Francesco's side lost both Serie A encounters with Inter by the same 7-0 scoreline.

REFEREE AND DISCIPLINE

Andrea Gervasoni will be overseeing his 50th Serie A match tonight, his 19th of the season. This year the home team has won seven, the away side seven and there have been four draws on his watch.

Gervasoni has officiated three Sassuolo matches in the top flight: a defeat (1-2 at home against Verona) and two wins, both at home, against Genoa in May 2014 and Juventus in October 2015.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri's record under Gervasoni is four wins, four draws and three defeats in 11 meetings, 10 of which came at San Siro.

After Empoli (683) Sassuolo have committed the most fouls in Serie A this season (625).

Only Napoli (432) have committed fewer fouls than Inter (490) in 2015/16, yet the Nerazzurri have collected 96 cards (11 reds) – one for every five fouls, the highest in the league.

SUSPENDED
Sassuolo: Berardi (1)
Inter: Handanovic (1), Perisic (1)

ONE BOOKING AWAY FROM SUSPENSION
Sassuolo: Duncan, Pellegrini
Inter: Jovetic, Nagatomo, Telles
