MILAN – Today's Throwback Thursday commemorates Lothar Matthaus winning the Ballon d'Or, a moment very dear to every Inter fan's heart.

In the world of social media, Thursday is the day to celebrate a special moment from the past using the hashtags #TBT and #ThrowbackThursday. This week's choice is certainly worthy of the accolade as 25 years ago the German superstar received the World Player of the Year trophy in front of his adoring public at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter would go on to lift their own trophy at the end of the season, beating Roma over two legs in the UEFA Cup final to win that competition for the first time in the club's history. Matthaus played a starring role in this triumph, scoring six times en route to success including one in the first leg of the final.
