FIRST INTER CLUB IN IRAQ

The Club is based in Baghdad and has 62 members. "We’re people from all over Iraq, all walks of life, united by a love for Inter," says president Ahmez Mazin

BAGHDAD – The Inter Club family has broadened its horizons once again with the creation of the first Inter Club Iraq, based in Baghdad.

Ahmez Mazin, the president of the Club, explained how the idea of forming an Inter Club came about and gave us some insight into some of the difficulties they encountered along the way: "The idea came to us during Javier Zanetti’s last match, the Inter v Lazio game of 10 May 2014. There were four of us – I started a Facebook page and started to invite more Inter fans.

"The first meeting took place in September. In the beginning there were only eight of us, but we hit 40 for last season’s derby. We’ve started to get to know each other too – we come from all over Iraq, from different social standings, but we have one thing in common: our love for Inter.

"Obviously there have been some issues in terms of organising meet-ups to watch the matches, given the difficult situation in Baghdad. It’s not safe to travel at night, after the game. Right now we’re organising events to help us become part of the social make-up of the city – we’re about to found a football club and we’re going to be running initiatives to help Iraqis. To be quite honest it’s not been easy to found an Inter Club: we have many day-to-day problems here but football and Inter bring a bit of joy into our lives," declared Mazin.

Inter Club Iraq currently has 62 members and is based in Baghdad.
