MILAN – Stefano Vecchi has praised his Primavera side for racing out of the blocks and quickly putting paid to Salernitana's hopes of claiming any points this afternoon.
The coach was clearly satisfied with his boys' display after they made short work of the visitors, plundering five goals inside the first 38 minutes before comfortably seeing out the game in the second half.
Speaking exclusively to inter.it after the match, Vecchi said: "As so often happens in this league, if you get off to a good start and take your chances it sets you on your way and makes the rest of the game so much easier.
"We started strong and finished off the opportunities we had, despite missing two penalties. We tried to carry on playing in the second half but when you're five goals up it's natural to ease off a little. In any case, the lads who came off the bench did very well so it's all good."
The victory saw the Nerazzurri close the gap with league leaders Cagliari to just two points, after the Sardinians suffered an unexpected home defeat at the hands of Cesena.
Vecchi commented: "That just shows you that any game can throw up problems. Cagliari hadn't lost at home all season but we could have slipped up today too. The most important thing was getting off on the right foot and not giving our opponents the chance to trouble us."
Five different goalscorers got their names on the scoresheet at the Centro Sportivo Giacinto Facchetti this afternoon, a sign of the strength in depth Inter boast this season.
"We have lots of good players," the Primavera manager agreed. “There's quality throughout the squad and we have lots of players with different attributes. The overall level is very high and the fact that so many of the lads are scoring proves that. They're all playing their part."
