MILAN – A rampant first-half display by Inter U19s saw them brush aside Salernitana this afternoon and clock up a seventh straight league win in the process.
The Primavera championship Week 10 fixture didn't last long as contest as Enrico Baldini opened the scoring just six minutes in when he turned in Bright Gyamfi's cross.
Axel Bakayoko was causing all sorts of havoc and he won two penalties in the space of a few minutes around the quarter-hour mark.
Federico Dimarco saw his effort from 12 yards saved by Giovanni Patella but quickly tucked away the rebound to make it 2-0.
Loris Zonta assumed spot-kick duties for the second but he too was denied by the Salernitana keeper, before Bakayoko put away the loose ball.
The floodgates had opened and the visitors were putting up very little resistance. Ten minutes later Gyamfi sent in a cross for Jose Correia to notch the fourth.
And when the Guinea-Bissau-born forward was brought down by Rosario De Sio on the edge of the box in the 38th minute, the Salernitana defender collected his second yellow card and the game was well and truly over. Pau De La Fuente mercilessly fired in the free kick to put the Nerazzurri 5-0 up.
Inter took their foot off the pedal after the break and there was little second-half action to note, save for Dimarco very nearly scoring a 50-yard wonder goal and Mauro Infante hitting the post for the visitors.
The Nerazzurri's win coupled with Cagliari's defeat by Cesena sees Vecchi's boys move up to 23 points in the table, just two behind their rivals.
