MILAN - Inter may sit atop the Serie A table with 12 points from four games but Roberto Mancini insists the early-season standings matter little.
"Our league position doesn't mean anything at the moment but it's important to be up there so that we can stay near the top over the course of the season," he told journalists after the Nerazzurri's 1-0 success at Chievo.
"The main thing is we managed to get the win at a tough place like the Bentegodi, struggling and battling away against an in-form Chievo side who defend brilliantly. I'm happy with the way the lads played, also because it was very hot and Chievo kept everyone behind the ball. It wasn't easy."
The coach then fielded questions on Perisic's performance, Murillo's injury and Inter's defensive solidity.
"Perisic did much better today. The new guys need time but they're all settling in well. Hopefully Murillo's injury is nothing serious. Jeison normally recovers quickly.
"As for our defensive record, the new guys who have come in are helping out but if we've only conceded one goal so far it's down to the whole team and the work they're putting in. The more we work the better we get. That's the only secret to success."
