'Io tifo positivo' at the San Siro. More than a thousand schoolchildren and their creations. No violence, just passion

MILAN – There’s been a lot of talk about combatting fan violence – perhaps even too much talk – but what’s being done about it? Educating children to be positive supporters is something concrete, not just empty words for Inter, as they lay down foundations in schools and create a project that features such esteemed partners as the Candido Cannavò Foundation and the City of Milan. Last Saturday, 1,150 children paraded at the San Siro with banners, drawings and signs that they created themselves, representing the commitment to encourage a fan base motivated by passion.
Pure passion. It’s what football should be, after all. Even when it seems today that everything is being reduced to nothing but facts and figures regarding the future. But a future without the support of the fans and the roar of the stadium is inconceivable. The fans of tomorrow are in elementary and middle school today, and that’s where they can begin a path leading to positive participation. For years now Inter have been supporting this initiative, which began as an idea by Don Gino Rigoldi, and has now been getting notice beyond Italian borders.
This simple system, which many times has led to the players themselves offering words of praise, last season organised a collective project that produced the longest banner in the world: down with racism and violence, and up with passion and positivity.
