FASSONE: "MAZZARRI A SURE THING, NOT A GAMBLE"

"The stats say we spend an awful lot of time in the opposition area. It's abnormal that we've had no penalties this year and just two in 44 games"

MILAN - FC Internazionale managing director Marco Fassone spoke to Radio Rai this morning. This is what he said:

"President Thohir seemed pleased and satisfied: winning the first derby in front of 80,000 fans is a good start. Mazzarri is no gamble, he's a sure thing, and both parties are delighted to be working together. He took over the team, started from scratch and is honing them in line with his ideas, so we're happy."

Asked about the lack of Italian players in last night's match, Fassone continued: "You can't deny that Inter is a club with a natural international leaning, but of course that doesn't mean we won't try to sign Italian players. We've brought in lots of youngsters and that's one direction we're headed in: Belfodil, Taider and Icardi are all young players."

The chief executive was also asked to comment on the absence of choreography in the stands at the derby: "The fans from the Curve work long and hard to get everything ready so not being able to see the result was disappointing and also annoying. The Inter and AC Milan supporters are closer than rival fans are in other cities. There's a lot of solidarity between the two sets at the moment."

Back on the question of closing the Curve: "If you try to apply a norm and each time the [appeal] court suspends the punishment and asks for further investigation to be carried out, then something's not right. I think the whole concept of objective responsibility needs to be looked at, just as we need to distinguish between racism and territorial discrimination."

As for Inter not being awarded a spot kick all season, Fassone said: "If you look at the stats, you see we're a team that spends an awful lot of time in the opposition's area and enjoys a high percentage of possession. It's abnormal that we haven't had any penalties this year and have been given just two in the last 44 games."

Finally, he discussed the transfer market and recent rumours regarding Fredy Guarin: "He's a very talented player so it's natural that lots of clubs should have their eye on him. Mazzarri has improved him. As for the transfer market, we'll see. If we do decide to do something, be it purchases or sales, we'll do it with the aim of strengthening the team. At the moment it's nothing but rumours. Guarin is our player and we're keeping him."
