THE THOUGHTS OF MARCO FASSONE AS INTER'S CURVA REOPENS

Chief executive spoke to Sky Sport 24 following the FIGC's decision to overturn the ban on Inter's Curva

MILAN - Chief executive Marco Fassone spoke to Sky Sport 24 over the phone earlier, following the FIGC's decision to overturn the ban on Inter and Roma's Curvas.

Did you expect this outcome?
"Expect it might be a bit strong: we expected the court to analyse our appeal carefully and we're very pleased. The fact that they decided to overturn the sanction means that the content of our appeal warranted further analysis."

Is it fair to punish an entire stand?
"It's not easy at this stage to carefully and objectively analyse whether a sanction is fair or not. We're trying to resolve something that would have meant the closure of the whole site, but what doesn't work is how disproportionate the punishment is: even if all 300 travelling fans had chanted abuse, it would have been disproportionate to close a section of 8,000 people who have already bought their tickets."

Now there are more details to come out, what do you expect in the future? Would it not be useful to find a consensus?
"There's no doubt, this is not the first time a decision has been overturned and this means the regulations leave everyone rather puzzled. It's right that the whole of the Lega tackles this problem with solutions that are not hypocritical but concrete. Above all that they don't penalise the clubs who find themselves caught between a rock and a hard place. The sanctions meted out need to be reviewed and punishments need to be applied via adequate means. The fact that the court decided to overturn the ban means that the regulations contain some inconsistencies. It's right that the whole of the Lega needs to find solutions, that they must not be hypocritical ones, it's a problem that needs facing up to because it affects all clubs and not just Inter."

Does all of the footballing world want to change this rule?
"I don't know about changing the rules, but we definitely need to revisit the process behind these rules."

How did the Christmas drinks with Erick Thohir go earlier?
"I think they went well, it's the president's first derby, he's met the whole team and, apart from his Christmas wishes, he showed he is very close to the whole team. Now we await the match."
