MAZZARRI: "GOOD FOOTBALL, SHAME ABOUT THE MISTAKES"

"We're doing a lot and picking up less than we deserve. We're in the process of growing and there's lots of work still to do"

BOLOGNA - Walter Mazzarri spoke to Sky Italia after this evening's 1-1 draw with Bologna.

The coach began: "We created even more chances than in other games but the way things went today it was almost as if we were jinxed, you can even end up losing games like that. We made a whole series of mistakes when Bologna scored and then we missed some incredible of chances of our own in front of goal. It's a shame because we're doing a lot but picking up less than we deserve."

Mazzarri went on to discuss the individual performances of some of his players: "Jonathan is looking like a big player, but we still need to work on him. They all know what they have to do. We've given them self-confidence. They all have talent and they're expressing it.

"Nagatomo felt a twinge but I don't know anything more. We'll see tomorrow.

"Guarin stays too close to Palacio at times, he needs to drop deeper but he played very well today. He did everything but score, rather like Palacio. It just wasn't our day. He battled hard, was good throughout and it wasn't easy. It's true that he needs to make his runs from deeper, which is what we practise in training, but the same could happen with anyone and we'd have fewer options going forward. We attack as a team - just think that we play with Alvarez in midfield. That's how I like to play, with the ball on the ground: we played some good football today, it's just a shame about the mistakes.

"Why not try Kovacic on the left of central midfield and Alvarez on the right? I did that at the end, but it's best not to switch things around too much because the moves need to be rehearsed again and again on the training pitch. The players haven't developed enough yet to know which movements to make if you change things around midway through a game. At Napoli I'd been working with the same set of players for years. Here I don't think they're ready for too many changes just yet. There were certain things from the past, new signings and players who weren't used to playing so much, so we're in the process of growing. Then there are youngsters like Taider and Juan Jesus who are doing well. Juan can become a top-class defender if he keeps improving.

"If we want to compete at the top we can't concede goals like that, or miss the chances we did in front of the keeper. You need to get points by playing your game but you mustn't forget it's the points that count. So we're playing ok but we have to win as well."

Mazzarri was also asked if he'd received a text from Thohir. "No I don't think so, but I haven't checked my phone yet... Napoli? We're focused on ourselves. We've thrown so many points away: we could have been a lot higher up because we've had lots of games like today. We have to work on that."
