MILAN - On Monday 18 November the 37th edition of the Internazionale Sport Civiltà was held at Parma's Teatro Regio.
The prestigious event, organised as ever by the Parma branch of the National Union of Veterans in Sport was overseen by Corrado Cavazzini and presented by journalists Massimo De Luca and Francesca Strozzi. The event was directed by Marco Caronna and saw a number of important people take to the stage, from the world of sport, business and journalism.
From Gazzetta dello Sport editor Andrea Monti, to the founder and president of Technogym Nerio Alessandri, along with the Athletes of the Year: cyclist Vincenzo Nibali, the winner of the Giro d'Italia; swimmer Martina Grimaldi, world champion over 25km; aerobatic display team 'Frecce Tricolori'; skiing legends Gustav Thöni and Piero Gros; one of Italy's best ever golfers Costantino Rocca.
There was a special award celebrating Parma FC's centenary, while Javier Zanetti was recognised for his PUPI Foundation. These were all the award winners on Monday at the ceremony which was attended by CONI National president Giovanni Malagò.
The Inter captain - who looked back over the best moments of his career with the Nerazzurri in a great interview with De Luca - and his lovely wife Paula picked up the Sport and Solidarity award for their work with children in need in Buenos Aires over more than 10 years with the PUPI Foundation. Accompanied by wonderful pictures and introduced by a beautiful 'Vacanze Romane' danced to the tango by Antonella Ruggiero, the Zanettis collected the award - created by the famous painter and sculptor Alfonso Borghi - from Lazard bank president Carlo Salvatori. Salvatori was joined on stage by the president of the National Union of Veterans in Sport in Parma, Corrado Cavassini and the Bishop of Parma, Monsignor Enrico Solmi, a famous Inter fan who had already given an award to Roberto Boninsegna in 2011.
"I'd like to thank the Italians who have always supported my project," said the captain. Presenter Massimo De Luca then asked him which of his team-mates over the years impressed him the most: "Ronaldo, who was an example of modesty in the dressing room." Zanetti was also asked about the new president, responding: "He's someone with clear ideas and we need to be there with him. I'd like to thank the Moratti family who were the first to believe in me."
We thank the UNVS press office for the photographs.
