MORATTI: "GREAT AND FRIENDLY ATTITUDE FROM MAYOR PISAPIA"

Honorary president spoke at Palazzo Marino following his meeting with president Thohir and the Mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia

MILAN - Massimo Moratti took questions from the press as he attended a meeting with Mayor Giuliano Pisapia, president Erick Thohir and his partners Rosan Roeslani and Handy Soetedjo.

What was said in the meeting with Mayor Pisapia?
"Some terrible secrets! The Mayor showed a very nice, friendly attitude and we really appreciate that. On the other side, Thohir and his partners intend to see Milan not only from an Inter perspective - which is the most important thing of course - but also as a friendship between two countries that can lead to other interesting developments. That is what's most important for us as Italians and them as investors."

Did you discuss a new stadium?
"No, that was in no way discussed."

Did Mayor Pisapia teach Thohir to say Milan l'è un gran Milan? [A Milanese expression meaning "Milan really is a great city"]
"No [smiling], he'll realise that at the next board meeting."

Did Thohir say anything to you about today's match against Chiasso?
"No, we didn't talk about it because I don't think it was a very happy topic [smiling]. It was a friendly, it was about players trying things out. Sadly Samuel didn't come through it well but I think it was useful to give a few players a run out. It's definitely not the result which is important."

What did you feel reading the papers this morning?
"It was interesting to see how it had come across, everyone was very warm and I was very happy about that. I was pleased that Thohir was given a very warm welcome and this also shows how intelligent our fans and members are, that they always look to the future with optimism, confidence and recognition and this is great."

Did you receive any messages from other presidents that you particularly enjoyed?
"I can't have enjoyed them too much because I didn't receive any! Perhaps there are some on my phone but I've not had a chance to read them."

Today at La Pinetina the fans showed confidence in Thohir and recognition for you. This is a sign that things can work...
"That's why I say our fans are intelligent. I've always thanked the crowd, in all sectors, and I'll continue to do so because they always strike the right balance in the way they do things, as well as showing great passion. That's the driving force behind this club and it will be in the future too."

Are you not too much of an overpowering figure, if you will, perhaps preventing the Inter fans from warming to president Thohir quickly?
"No, I don't think so. I think I've found a position, or rather they've kindly offered me a position, that I don't think is overpowering. I won't ever be overpowering because I'll follow the team's results and if things are going well Thohir will be delighted, I'll be delighted and the fans will be too with the new management."
