MAZZARRI: "WE'LL GO TO CATANIA DETERMINED TO PLAY OUR GAME"

"They'll try to use the electric atmosphere to their advantage but we have to shut it all out"

APPIANO GENTILE – Walter Mazzari met with journalists at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti this morning to discuss Inter's visit to Catania tomorrow.

The coach began: "Catania will try to use the electric atmosphere at the Stadio Massimino to their advantage. We have to make sure we shut it all out and concentrate on playing our own game. We'll be up against a skilful side that plays good football. They deserved a point in Florence last week. That shows you just how tough it's going to be. But we want to put in a top performance, showing conviction and determination."

The reporters then quizzed Mazzarri about Mateo Kovacic's fitness. "He followed a personalised training programme again this week to help get him up to full match fitness. I don't know if he's got 90 minutes in him yet, but I'll have another look at him today.

"Where do I see him playing? That's something I'm still assessing. I'm trying to give him some advice: he's very young and he needs time to develop. I think he's the sort of player I'd like to see operating a bit further up the field compared to where he played last year. I think he can really make the difference in the final third. He's a versatile player who can play in three positions. In the future I think he could play his best football in the hole or out wide in a front three."

Finally a comment on how the wide players are coming along: "At the start they were slightly wary but now they're more convincing, they're starting to believe in getting forward and finishing. I think they've made great strides given what I saw when we first started. I'm confident, and I'm keen to see if their progress continues tomorrow."

On the subject of wide players, the coach spoke about Alvaro Pereira: "Pereira came back late from the national team, I saw Jonathan play well and score, he kept his place, performed well against Genoa, and will probably start against Catania. If Pereira stays and does what Jonathan does, then he'll play. Not everyone can start."

Diego Milito will turn out for the Primavera again today, and the Nerazzurri coach gave his thoughts on El Principe: "He's looked really good over the last two weeks, I've seen him make progress, he's got more belief. I asked him to get more minutes under his belt and to step his comeback up a notch. He's with the Primavera to try and do what we ask of our centre forwards."
