Last 22 June was the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
We gathered at the CEAS in Parco Lambro in Milan: a day in which the morning
sun burned your skin, and friends of the Centro Ambrosiano di Solidarietà, run
by Don Colmegna, organised a football tournament on a pitch that Inter Campus
had recently refurbished, surrounding it with netting so as not to disturb
other residents of the house while the Rom children take part in games. They
invited friends, classmates as well as other children who belong to sport clubs
such as the Centro Schuster and the Polisportiva Cassina Nuova.
The oldest kids played against the police team – the narcotics division,
specifically – going full throttle, and even winning their match!
Milan also has its own Inter Campus chapter, because beyond the smaller towns
and provinces there’s also a need for social integration in the larger cities
of the world, where the intermingling of different cultures, ideologies and
economic realities takes place. For this reason, Cardinal Martini created the
Casa della Carità, teaching the concept of charity in a social setting.
It was on this day that Don Virginio Colmegna announced the summer project of
the "schiscetta", a term used by the Milanesi to refer to a meal
prepared at home and taken to the workplace, although in today’s economic
climate it’s showing no signs of decline. Throughout the summer the Casa della
Carità in Milan has been inviting guests and residents of the neighbourhood to
bring a meal for themselves and another for someone else. Accompanying the
occasion was the entertainment generously provided by Lella Costa.
Enjoy the photos here of that happy day in Milan!
