JONATHAN: "THANKS FANS, IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR BACKING"

"Happy with the moment I'm going through. I hope to remain at Inter"

PINZOLO - Jonathan gave an interview to FcInter1908.it after training on Friday morning. This is what the Brazilian had to say.

What did Mazzarri say when the two of you sat down for that one-on-one chat the coach had with all the players?
"I can't tell you everything we said to each other but he told me he wants his wide players to get forward at every opportunity. He also likes them to move across and cover when the ball is on the opposite flank and he told me I have to work hard because I've got quality but need to be on form physically. Other things we said will remain between me and him."

What was the hardest time for you since joining Inter?
"I think the most difficult time was when I first arrived. There were lots of players in my position and I came here with an injury. As soon as I felt better, I got injured again. Then I moved to Parma and I'd never been out on loan before but it went well I think – it was a very good experience for me to go to Parma. I played lots of games and was able to show what I can do. I got to know Italian football better and that period was key for me to then come back to Inter."

You've often come in for stick from the fans but things seem to be better now, in fact you've been one of the players to get the most applause in Pinzolo. Is there anything you want to say to them?
"Yes, I'm delighted with this moment I'm going through now. A footballer needs to feel he's got the fans' backing. What I want to say to the fans is that I'm very happy. I wish them well and hope we can have a better season than last."

Have you considered leaving at any point this summer? Have any other clubs asked about you?
"I've never considered leaving Inter. I think we should stay where we're wanted. If they want me here at Inter, I'll stay and I'm happy. If they don't want me then I'll have to look for another team, a solution that's good for me and my family. But I'm happy at Inter and I hope to stay here."

Isla might be joining. Are you worried you might not feature much or do you think you can earn yourself some playing time?
"I'm not worried, I know what I'm capable of. If Isla or another player comes in he'll be welcomed by the team and everyone at Inter. Then we'll see. I think whoever's performing best should play. We'll see what the coach decides when Isla or someone else arrives."

Do you think 3-5-2 is an ideal formation for you, given your qualities?
"Yes, I think it is. It's a formation I played in under Stramaccioni and with Donadoni at Parma and I think I did well."

Have you spoken to Andrea Stramaccioni since he was sacked? What sort of relationship did you have?
"No, I haven't. We had a good relationship, there was mutual respect. I always respected his choices but we haven't spoken since he left Inter."
