INTER CAMPUS, HELPING CHILDREN IN ROMANIA

Providing opportunity and hope with a visit that included training sessions, courses and much more

BUCHAREST – It was the last visit of the season to Romania – to Brasov, Bucharest and Slatina, specifically – where the Inter Campus staff returned with a sense of nostalgia as they recalled the sweet faces and contagious laughter of the children they encountered during their days of games and training.

In the region of Brasov, in Transylvania, the project is carried out in collaboration with the Inima Pentru Inima Foundation and concerns itself with the social integration of orphaned and abandoned children from orphanages and foster homes in Sacele, Tarlungeni and Victoria. The project also includes boys and girls from the reform school in Ghimbav; a correctional facility for minors under the age of 14. If the arrival of the coaches from Milan is a highly awaited event in all the Inter Campus locations in the world, then it’s even more anticipated for children like these, who have very little contact with the outside world (other than the weekly training with their team-mates on their local pitch). For this special visit the kids had made lovely artwork in blue and black that was presented to coaches Paola Balconi and Roberto Picardi.

There was a big surprise in Bucharest, where the visit began with an exciting acrobatic show, specially prepared for our arrival by the artistic group of Parada Foundation, which finished to the tune of Pazza Inter. The project in the Romanian capital will continue with help from the partner Parada, with a focus on the social integration of street children and orphans. Other highlights of the Bucharest leg of the trip included meetings with Diego Brasioli, the Italian Ambassador who has been there for just a few months, and Dan Boboc, the director of the National Institute for Sport Research. And of course, there were the usual training sessions with the children and courses for the local staff. A special thanks goes out to the Liceo Sportivo Mircea Eliade for making their pitches available for the children’s workouts.

And finally, there were celebrations in Slatina, where the latest edition of the Milioane de Zambete (Millions of Smiles) tournament celebrated its first 5 years of outstanding work carried out on behalf of children by the local staff of Comunità Nuova, along with the valuable support of Pirelli Tyres Romania.
