We're back in Uganda! At the end of April, Inter Campus returned to the pitches of St. Joseph Primary School in Nagalama, where there is an ongoing collaboration with the NGO, Medici con l’Africa CUAMM.
As usual, there were hundreds of children and a large group of coaches and
instructors. It’s a group that’s growing thanks to the initiative taken by our
local contacts. The principal Josephine and technicians Fred and Michael have
spontaneously involved the schools of the district in a variety of sporting and
athletic activities that replicate the Inter Campus expertise, which was
transmitted this time by Alberto and Silvio. They stressed the idea of the
right to play and a knowledgeable use of sport through instruction.
After the first course in Nagalama, the delegation moved on to the north of
the country, to Aber, where a new Inter Campus centre can now be considered
underway. In this region, which is very different from the south, the children of the village’s
primary school are involved thanks to
volunteers Marco and Maria Grazia Piccioni. It is also the same school in which children from
the nearby St. Claire orphanage study.
Young Samuel and Erem Aron acted as mascots for the inauguration. And even
after breaking his leg the week before, Erem wouldn’t have missed it for the
world!
Once the balls and sporting equipment were distributed, the great festival began with traditional dances as well as an unexpected "Pazza Inter" designed on the ground with flowers and blue and black cloth. There are always plenty of emotions involved with Inter Campus in Africa, but the most excitement comes, as always, from seeing so many children happy, as well as training their instructors. That way, with our small contribution, they can continue to bring the kids along with the same admirable dedication and professionalism.
