Internazionale's title chances have fallen short but the club have locked up their place in next season's Champions League ahead of Sunday's Serie A contest at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza against Sampdoria, who have already clinched their place in next season's Serie A and cannot improve any further.

Internazionale are in second place on 81 points, two points behind Milan at the top of the table with one match to play. Fifth-placed Lazio, the first club outside of the Champions League spots, are 18 points behind the Nerazzurri. Inter won their last Serie A match 3-1 at Unipol Domus against Cagliari, extending their winning streak to three.

Sampdoria defeated Fiorentina 4-1 at home in their last league match, putting them in 15th place on 36 points. Samp have scored 46 goals and conceded 60 through 37 matches.

The last Serie A meeting between the clubs, a September match at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, ended in a 2-2 draw. Federico Dimarco and Lautaro Martínez found the net for the Nerazzurri. Maya Yoshida and Tommaso Augello were on target for Samp.

Martínez has been irreplaceable for Inter this season. The striker is their leading scorer with 21 goals, which is the third highest among the league's top scorers in 2021/2022.

Visitors Sampdoria have been spearheaded in attack by Francesco Caputo, who has scored on 11 occasions, including six match-opening goals.

Hosts Inter have been formidable at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this season with 13 wins, three draws, and just two losses in 18 Serie A contests. The Nerazzurri will be out to prolong a five-match home unbeaten streak (W4 D1 L0) dating to March 4 against Salernitana. Sampdoria have four wins, three draws, and 11 losses on the road this season in league matches. Samp are looking to reverse a three-match away winless streak (W0 D1 L2). The last time they won away was March 20 against Venezia.

In their last six league matches, Inter have won five and lost one. Sampdoria, meanwhile, have won two, drawn one and lost three in their last six.

Five of the previous six times Inter have exceeded 80 points (currently 81) in a Serie A tournament in the three-point-a-win era, they have won the Scudetto (with the exception of the 2019/20 season, when they finished second behind Juventus, collecting 82 points).

Inter are the side that have scored the most goals from direct attacks in Serie A this season (10 goals), while only Genoa (one) have scored less than Sampdoria (two) in this way in the current current.

Since Opta started collecting assist data for Serie A (2004/2005), no Inter player has managed to deliver more assists in a single season than Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolò Barella – both 11 in Serie A in 2021/22 (level with Romelu Lukaku 2020/21 and Maicon 2009/10).
