Internazionale's pursuit of first-placed Milan and the Serie A title resumes on Sunday at Unipol Domus against a Cagliari side who find themselves in the relegation zone.

Internazionale defeated Empoli 4-2 at home in their last Serie A match, leaving them in second place on 78 points. The Nerazzurri are two points behind first-placed Milan. The Nerazzurri lead fifth-placed Lazio by 16 points for a spot in the Champions League.

Cagliari are in 18th place on 29 points, a point adrift of safety with two matches left. Cagliari played out a 1-1 draw in their last Serie A match at Stadio Arechi against Salernitana, extending their winless streak to three (W0 D1 L2).

The previous Serie A fixture between the sides saw Inter come out on top 4-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in December. Lautaro Martínez led the Nerazzurri with two goals, scoring in the 29th and 68th minute. Alexis Sánchez and Hakan Calhanoglu also found the net.

Inter have got the better of Cagliari of late, unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches (W4 D1 L0). Cagliari are looking for their first league win in games between the two clubs since March 2019. The Nerazzurri have outscored the Sardi 11-3 during their unbeaten streak.

Martínez has been a talisman in front of goal for Inter, netting on 19 occasions. The striker ranks third among the league's top scorers in 2021/2022.

The attacking prowess of Giovanni Simeone and João Pedro has made a difference for Cagliari this season. Simeone is the club's top scorer with 16 goals, which is the fourth highest in the competition, eight of which have been the crucial first of the match. Nearly as impressive, Pedro has scored 13 times, including five match-openers.

On home soil this season, Cagliari have three wins, six draws, and nine losses in 18 Serie A contests. In league matches on their travels this season, Inter have 10 wins, six draws, and two losses.

In their last six league matches, Cagliari have won one, drawn one and lost four. Inter, meanwhile, have won five and lost one in their last six.

Inter have scored a goal after 325 touches on average, the lowest average in Serie A this season.

Lautaro Martínez (19 goals) could become the sixth player in Inter’s history to score 20 goals in a single Serie A season before turning 25, after Giuseppe Meazza, Sandro Mazzola, Antonio Angelillo, Ronaldo and Mauro Icardi.
